A Little Bit of History

An event is being planned, an event which has taken place for many years .... and then someone asked 'when did it start?' Now, Jenny Flake is the guru of the Club history; her Mum, Mary Passmore, had been a member forever and had saved everything ..... well not quite everything! The closest date Jenny could guess was 35 years ago. However, she did pick the brains of some of the older members at the lunch at The Langton Arms this year and was able to identify the five county contact leaders responsible for the inaugural lunch. They were : Peggy Warwick from Cornwall; Sue Silvester from Hampshire; Joan Davis from Devon: Kay Ireland from Dorset and Mary Passmore from Sussex.
What we don't know is where it was held. What we can assume is that, given the distance between Brighton in Sussex and Bodmin in Cornwall (a journey of almost five hours today) some members had a long way to travel to join the party!
